Bright Future: City of Los Angeles Releases Sustainability Plan

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti unveiled the city's first sustainability plan on April 8, which includes the bold commitment to reduce greenhouse gases 80% by 2050 (below the 1990 baseline). With plans for clean energy, public transportation, and energy-efficient building, the targets will help California continue to lead on climate issues, while also improving the lives of Angelenos. A few key goals include: fully eliminating coal-powered electricity from the city’s energy mix by 2025, along with huge increases for solar-generated power and storage; zero unhealthy air pollution days by 2025; and transportation/road improvements to guarantee that 50% of journeys taken by Angelenos in 2035 will be by bike, foot, or public transportation.
